Planet Computers Cosmo mini PC smartphone now boots Android and Linux

Planet Computers has released a new update to its Cosmo mini PC smartphone providing the ability for users to boot both Android and now Linux on the Cosmo. The ability to boot Linux on the Cosmo Communicator is thanks to the open source community that provided an initial version of Linux for Cosmo Communicator.

“The first step to install Linux on your Cosmo is to make sure you are running the latest Android firmware, currently v19. You can check the Android version by tapping Settings -> System -> Advanced -> About Phone and scrolling to the end of the page. Next you will have to download the Linux firmware, which will need to be installed into the microSD card on your Cosmo. Insert a microSD card on your Cosmo and make sure it is formatted as MS-DOS(FAT32).”

“Next, you will have to boot into recovery mode. To do that, simply turn ON your Cosmo while keeping pressed the volume up button on the outside cover. The volume up button is the one on the fingerprint sensor, which points UP when the unit is open. The unit should boot into recovery mode and you should be able to see the Android logo, but nothing else. The main requirement when installing Linux is to reserve space for it. In order to do this you will have to re-partition your device, which will lead to the loss of all your data. Once you reserve some space for Linux you can update Android or Linux independently, without loosing your data again. To change the partition table of your Cosmo use the option “Change the partition table of your COSMO”, as in the picture below.”

Samsung Galaxy M31 smartphone gets official

We have heard a number of rumors about the new Samsung Galaxy M31 smartphone, the handset is now official and it has launched in India.

The device is powered by a Samsung Exynos 9611 mobile processor and it come with 6GB of RAM, there is also a choice of 64GB or 128GB of included storage and a microSD card slot for expansion.

The Samsung Galaxy M31 comes with a 6.4 inch Super AMOLED display that features a Full HD+ resolution and it has a range of high end cameras.

On the front of the device there is a 32 megapixel camera for Selfies and video calls, on the back of the device there is a four camera setups. The four rear cameras include a 64 megapixel main camera, a 12 megapixel ultra wide camera, a 5 megapixel macro camera and a 5 megapixel depth sensor.

The device comes with Android 10 and it features a 6000 mAh battery, pricing for the handset starts at Rs 14,999 about $210 for the 64GB model and Rs 15,999 about $223 for the 128GB model. The handset will be available in Space Back and Ocean Blue.

New Mac with Apple designed processor coming first half of next year

We have been hearing rumors for a while that Apple has been working on its owns processors to use in its Mac range of computers, according to a recent report the first Mac with an Apple designed processor is coming next year.

The news comes from respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a recent note to investors. Apple will apparently launch their first Mac with their own in house designed Arm processor in the first half of 2021.

Apple has designed its own processors for its iPhones and iPads for some time, the company has had plans to use its own processors in its Mac range of computers for a while. You can see what Ming-Chi Kuo had to say below.

We expect that Apple’s new products in 12-18 months will adopt processors made by 5nm process, including the new 2H20 5G iPhone, new 2H20 iPad equipped with mini LED, and new 1H21 Mac equipped with the own-design processor. We think that iPhone 5G support, ‌iPad‌’s adoption of innovative mid-size panel technology, and Mac’s first adoption of the own-design processor are all Apple’s critical product and technology strategies. Given that the processor is the core component of new products, we believe that Apple had increased 5nm-related investments after the epidemic outbreak. Further, Apple occupying more resources of related suppliers will hinder competitors’ developments.

It will be interesting to find out more details about these new processors and how they will compare to the Intel ones that Apple uses at the moment.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 to have improved folding display

We have been hearing rumors about the new Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 for a while and now it looks like we have some more details on the handset.

Samsung recently launched their second folding smartphone, the Galaxy Z Flip which had a folding glass display, although it was revealed that the display was coated in plastic and not as durable as glass.

The original Galaxy Fold has a folding plastic display and it is not as durable as glass, Samsung are apparently looking to make a number of changes to the display on the Galaxy Fold 2.

According to a recent report by Korean publication TheElec, the new Galaxy Fold 2 will use a display which combines transparent polyimide (PI) with Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG).

This would be a combination of the display materials that Samsung has used in the original Galaxy Fold and also the Galaxy Z Flip. Samsung’s plan of combining these two materials could create a display that is foldable but also more durable than the ones they are using on their current folding handsets.

The company is also rumored to be using an under display camera for the new Galaxy Fold, the device will get a number of other upgrades over the current model.

AirPods X Generation listing could be for new Apple over ear headphones

A recent listing at Target’s internal system revealed that Apple has a number of new devices on the way, one of the listings was for AirPods X Generation, this may be some new Apple Over Ear headphones.

There have been rumors for a while about some new over ear headphones from Apple and this new listing with a price of $399 could be for these new headphones.

The AirPods costs $159, the AirPods Pro cost $249 so it would make sense for Apple to choose a $399 price point for this new device.

The new AirPod were originally discovered by Jon Prosser who has suggested that we may see this new device at Apple’s March press event, the event is rumored to take place on the 31st of March.

We also heard details about other new devices listed at Target, this includes a new Apple TV, a new iPod Touch and some new Apple Watch bands.

So it looks like the March press event could be a big launch for Apple as we are also expecting a new 13 inch MacBook Pro, a new iPad Pro and the new iPhone 9. As soon as we get some more details on exactly what Apple has planned for next months event we will let you guys know.

Sony Xperia Pro 5G smartphone unveiled

As well as the new Xperia 1 MK II and Xperia 10 MK II, Sony also unveiled their new Sony Xperia Pro smartphone, a handset designed for professionals and video creators.

The handset will come with a 6.5 inch OLED display and it will feature a 4K resolution like the Sony Xperia 1 MK II.

The Sony Xperia Pro 5G will also come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor and 8GB of RAM, plus 512GB of storage.

It will also support high speed mmWave 5G technology and will come with a HDMI port, plus a 4000 mAh battery and triple rear cameras. Sony have not revealed the full specifications on this new smartphone as yet.

There are also no details on when the handset will launch and how much it will cost, as soon a we get some more information about the device we will let you guys know.
