Guy Buys MacBook Pro, Gets Two Bottles Of Lemonade

If a deal is There is too good to be true, it probably is. But people get drawn in because they can’t afford the things they want in life, and just maybe it could be true. That’s what happened over in the UK where student Dre Twenti got swindled out of 1,200 pounds for what he thought was a MacBook Pro.

According to Twenti, “Me and my girlfriend were approached by a guy next to the sixth form centre in West Bromwich. I was asked if I’d like to buy a laptop which I thought was dodgy but still went and had a peek, it was a Apple Mac Pro. He also had few other items so I asked to take a look – three iPhone 11s.”

Twenti withdrew 700 pounds from the bank and an extra 500 pounds in vouchers from JD Sports, because the seller told him that he was planning to go there anyway. He followed the seller back to the car where he was passed the goods, inspected them, and left.

However, it was only when he got home that he realized that he had been a victim of a bait and switch. There were two bottles of lemonade where a MacBook Pro should have been. Twenti has learned an expensive lesson.

New Etsy advertising policy takes effect April 14th 2020

On April 14th, 2020 Etsy will be rolling out a new advertising policy which is causing a stir with makers. For example if you made less than $10,000 in the last 12 months will be charged a 15% fee (on the the amount you made from your sale before the advertising fee was applied) for any order attributed to an off-site advert.

“We’re introducing an updated advertising service, Offsite Ads, which uses Etsy’s budget and expertise to promote your items on multiple high-traffic sites including Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Bing. When a shopper clicks on one of those online ads for your products and purchases from your shop within 30 days, you’ll pay an advertising fee. You only pay an advertising fee when you make a sale – eliminating the risk you could pay for ads that don’t work for you. Offsite Ads is only available on Etsy – we designed it with the unique needs of Etsy shop owners in mind.”

“Etsy advertises listings throughout the web, including in search engine results and social media apps like Facebook. Etsy offers this service with no upfront costs to you: you only pay an advertising fee when you make a sale. Your listings may be included in these advertisements. Etsy may at our discretion automatically advertise your listings with our partners.

Until 14th April 2020, you won’t be charged a fee for any orders that result from Offsite Ads. If you make a sale from a click on one of Etsy’s Offsite Ads after 14th April, you’ll pay an advertising fee for that order. Offsite ads may be optional for your shop, depending on the revenue you’ve made on Etsy in the past 12 months. The offsite advertising fee for an order will never exceed 100 USD (approximately 78 GBP), regardless of the order total for an order attributed to an Offsite Ad.”

The Etsy off site advertising fee depends on the revenue you’ve made on Etsy in the past 365 days:

– If you made less than $10,000 USD (approximately 7,800 GBP), you’ll be charged a 15% fee for an order attributed to an Offsite Ad on the the amount you made from your sale before the advertising fee was applied.
– If you made at least 10,000 USD, you’ll get a discounted fee of 12%.

Family Clones Dog

If you’ve ever owned a dog, you know that they are part of the family. So whenever a dog passes away, it’s not quite as simple as just going out and finding a new one. It is like losing a child. One family would not let go.

When it was time for Alicia and David Tschirhart to say goodbye to their beloved pet labrador, Marley, they couldn’t do it. So they cloned Marley which resulted in a new dog that they have named Ziggy. The couple says that Ziggy has the same personality as Marley, and Ziggy favors the same toys as Marley and even plays the same way.

Cloning animals isn’t new. The first animal that was cloned was a sheep named Dolly. It is also not the first time that a pet has been cloned. In South Korea, a sniffer dog that was known for his “legendary” nose was cloned to produce seven other identical sniffer dogs.

This couple cloned their dog by taking a tissue sample that was then sent to ViaGen, a company that specializes in cloning, who then cultured new living cells from the sample and later took one of those samples and replaced the nucleus of a female dog’s egg with it. The resulting birth is a clone of the original animal. We live in strange times.

2020 Facebook F8 developer conference cancelled due to coronavirus

Facebook has announced that it is cancelling its 2020 Facebook F8 developer conference due to the coronavirus outbreak. The company is following others like Mobile World Congress who also cancelled their conference.

Facebook posted a message on the F8 developer website saying that the conference was cancelled, you can ee what they had to say below.

In light of the growing concerns around COVID-19, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the in-person component of F8 this year, in order to prioritize the health and safety of our developer partners, employees and everyone who helps put F8 on. We plan to replace the in-person F8 event with locally hosted events, videos and live-streamed content.

Smithsonian Open Access provides access to 2.8 million CC0 images at launch

This month the Smithsonian museums have launched their new Smithsonian Open Access resource providing the public with access to 2.8 million images that launch. All of which have been released into the public domain as Creative Commons Zero (CC0), meaning you can use, transform, and share our open access assets without asking permission from the Smithsonian.

“Open access is a unique opportunity to bring Smithsonian collections to people in new ways, to engage with the public, and provide important context for challenging 21st-century issues. This means the Smithsonian dedicates the digital asset into the public domain, meaning it is free of copyright restrictions and you can use it for any purpose, free of charge, without further permission from the Smithsonian. As new images are digitized, if they are determined to be copyright-free, the Smithsonian will dedicate them as CC0 ongoing.”

Coronavirus Could Force Cancellation Of The Tokyo Olympic Games

The coronavirus has impacted businesses and travel, and forced companies to pull out of events. It has also resulted in one of the biggest trade shows involving mobile devices to be cancelled this year. Now it looks like another major event could be at risk of being cancelled. The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

According to Dick Pound, a senior member of the International Olympics Committee (IOC), due to growing concern of the spread of the coronavirus, there is a chance that if things do not improve, the 2020 Olympic Games could very well be cancelled. Previously, there was already some concern about whether or not the event could go ahead.

Initially, it was believed that this would not be an issue, but after new cases in Japan were confirmed, it could mean a cancellation of the games. It will not be postponed or relocated but cancelled. Previously, the mayor of London had offered to host the games if they required relocation, but now it seems like they could be cancelled.

The spread of the virus has affected pretty much the entire world, so relocation wouldn’t make sense as it would pose the same risks. Nothing is certain yet though. It is a possibility.

Google has asked US government to let it do business with Huawei

Huawei is under a trade ban in the US at the moment, this means that it has had to remove Google apps and services from it devices, apps like Gmail, Google Search and more.

Now Google has applied to the US government for an exemption which would allow the company to do business with Huawei again.

Microsoft was previously given an exemption by the US government which allows them to work with Huawei, so Google could get a similar exemption.

If Google is granted this exemption then its range of apps which include the Play Store, YouTube, Gmail, Photos and more would be allowed to run on these devices out of the box. It will be interesting to see what decision is made, we suspect that they will be granted the exemption.
